Golf Carts Alowed on Village Streets…Registration
required.
At council meeting on February 23rd, 2017, Village Council approved the use of
golf carts in the Village of Tekonsha. Under MCL257.657a, the Michigan Vehicle
Code authorizes a city/village with a population of fewer than 30,000 to allow, by
resolution, operation of golf carts on its streets.
The statute imposes restrictions on the operation of golf carts within a city/village
including the following but not limited to:
•
– Operators must be at least 16 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
•
– Operators must comply with signal requirements set forth in MCL 257.648
(i.e.
using hand signals to signal a turn, etc.).
•
– Golf carts must be driven as close to the right side of the roadway as
practicable,
with a maximum speed limit is 15 mph.
•
– Golf carts may not be operated from 1/2 hour before sunset to 1/2 hour
after
sunrise.
•
– Golf carts may not be operated on pedestrian sidewalks or on state line
trunk
highways (Main Street) except to cross that highway. In addition to the resolution,
Village Council is requiring that all golf carts be registered at the village office
where you will receive a copy of the entire resolution, map of roads and a sticker
for your cart. There is no charge for this registration. For more

Resserve a Park
To reserve the pavilion at either park and to get
keys to the bathrooms for Cheney park contact
the Village office @ 767-4204. Electricity is
available at both.
Loose Dogs
The village office has been receiving a number
of complaints about loose dogs. For the safety
of your pets and the general public please keep
your dog on a leash while walking them and
secure them on your property while at home. If
you spot a loose dog please take a picture if
possible and report it to 269-781-0911 so we
can more effectively find the owner. Always
remember that it is your responsibilty to clean
up after your pet, please care a plastic bag with
you.
No livestock
Which includes chickens inside the Village limits.
Lawns
All weeds and rank vegetation must be mowed
once a month and to a height of 8” from May 15
to September 15.
